I’m divided between doing an MBA in Finance and getting into the Actuarial Science classes and getting myself a certification on Actuarial Science.

My interest is in investment and portfolio management, fund management, interest and financial risk hedging, business strategy and strategic planning in relation to global climate change. I’d like to know the breadth of options that will available for me if I do an MBA in Finance and compare that with the likes of ACCA, CIMA, and ASB.

MBA won’t help you at all in this… MBA will help only if your becoming a manager, so think about it only if your going into a managerial position.

If you are interested in investment and portfolio management, fund management, interest and financial risk hedging…etc consider the CFA and the CMA… CFA ( charted Financial Analyst) would suite you more than CMA.

I am a middle-aged man in a life-transition which includes being divorced and out of work. I have an education/training background, but my teaching license is expired, and I ran a semi-successful home business. Many companies I’ve worked for have changed management, and my home-business clients were not steady enough to ‘know’ me, so I find myself with great skills, but no really good references. It’s not that everybody I’ve worked/with/for didn’t like me, just that most/all of the ones that did are not able to be reached any longer. Any suggestions on how I can handle this without seeming totally incompetent?

That’s a tricky one. I would make sure your resume really sells your skills and includes your work history. Most employers will call the companies you worked for to confirm your employment - not necessarily to get a referral. In your resume, you will put references on request. This way, you will at least get to sell your self with your resume and well written cover letter, have one interview / meeting with your perspective employer. They’re going to get a gut feeling for you anyway. Then provide personal references or people with whom you have worked previously, regardless of whether you reported to them or not. If your prospective employer still needs more references, then explaining to them your home-business didn’t provide you with long-term referrals should suffice. Honesty is the best policy!

Why don’t you look into getting your teaching license renewed…there’s a real need to for teachers!

I have a heart for helping people but currently have a job in retail management. will that be an easy transition? I have a BA in finance, will I have to go back to school to go into something for something like and also do you guys have any suggestions? Pay matters a little so I don’t want to do anything that max out at 40k.

I suppose I can suggest what NOT to do.

1) Records. To be a manager in records, you max out at about $45K, depending on where you live.
2) Social work doesn’t pay squat and takes a masters degree in order to be considered billable by Medicare requirements.
3) Most other therapies, ie: art therapy, expressive therapy, occupational therapy…. require a lot of schooling and don’t pay much, either.

Your best bet, for the most money and least amount of schooling, will be to go into nursing, or so I think. The pay doesn’t really ‘max out’ and it’s flexible on many levels. You can do many different occupations, even nurse administration, and the pay is pretty decent.

I am thinking about switching career field from restaurant to retail or something similar. Please describe the positives and negatives.

After I quit my job as a general manager for Pizza Hut, I became a shift manager at Gamestop. I assumed it would be much better than working with food. Most of the management duties were the same such as scheduling and cash control. Inventory was another story. Nothing was manually ordered except for reserved orders. We had no control over our stock it was all done electronically depending on what was bought throughout the corporation. This seems like it would be easier but its harder to account for a shipment when you don’t know what it is. Higher priced items had to be tracked and l would pick rolling silverware or washing dishes over logging seriel numbers any day. There are a lot more monotonous tasks to be done and just like in any management job sometimes you get stuck doing them. At any retail place you are going to have to organize shelves which is so incredibly horrible to do when there are customers walking around and messing them up behind you. Labor is a little harder to control and theft prevention is something that you are responsible for. It can also be harder to please a customer if something is defective. Some items at stores are supplied by vendors, like DVD’s, so if its open you can’t exchange it or refund their money. Remaking someones food or voiding something off of their bill is pretty easy in a restaurant. If you plan on working in retail you’ll miss out on free lunch but you might get a good discount at a store. Work somewhere with products you are interested in.

from Oberon to Collins submarines) but mistakenly believe a "change management" methodology will suffice ? Did you know "conversion management" is a whole other topic ?

With change management, you have some system that works, but people want improvements there & change management ensures that the changes are authorized, properly budgeted for, properly tested that they are working right, that the people who need training get what they need, that the documentation is updated to reflect the new way the systems work.

In August 1944 the 'Grand Inquisitor' of European Jewry reported to Himmler that approximately four million Jews had died in the death camps and that another two million had been killed by mobile extermination units. Did Eichmann lie to show his superiors his true Nazism or did he reflect the meticulous records the Nazis were prone to keep?

Was the 6 million figure implanted into the public consciousness as a result of the Eichmann trial in Israel in 1960?

The Soviet claim was that 4 million Jews had been gassed at Auschwitz and 2 million at four other camps to arrive at the 6 million total. A monument attesting to this figure stood at the entrance to Auschwitz. It was later realized that this number was not possible and the official figure was reduced in 1980. Today the monument reads 1.2 million.

Now historians generally believe that 1 million Jews were killed from 1933 to Jan. 1944 and that over 5 million were done in between the years 1942 and Fall of 1944 from the following countries:

I hope I have done well..may I know my score?

I’m 18 years old and I’m known to be grumpy around my house; my family tells me not to be so grumpy and go out and make some friends for a change (which I find hard, but not because of my problem)

The issue that I have is that I don’t like it when my mom supports me because I take it as an insult, I feel that I can handle my own goals and her helping me shows that I’m weak, I also feel that she doesn’t give me any space, which in return causes me to disrespect her. Puberty?

I’m also grumpy at work because I take a lot of jokes the wrong way and most of the time I laugh them off but other times I can’t get over it and I end up starting a fiss. (the guys at my job don’t joke like normal people do, they say completely irrelevant things that tick me off, and instead of getting it go I sometimes go to sleep with frustration)

I think this is damaging me mentally and someone told me it might be from depression, I don’t know if I am but I’m home way too much and I can’t think of one friend to go out with (once again not from my personality but simply because I can’t make close friends). The only time I’m really stable is at school when I’m around a lot of people.

I need a girlfriend!

so my question is, do you recommend anger management for me? If so where can I find classes in L.A.? Is it costly? I don’t want to spend much at all, I just need some advice.

thanks!

I don’t know about anger management. I used to feel the same excact way, and every once and a while the feeling comes back. I think, because you mentioned you can’t make close friends, that you have security issues, I did. I didn’t want to trust nobody, so I ended up pushing them away when I got too close. Maybe something happened that you need to address and get over. Once you do that you will live a much healthier lifestyle and you’ll be more enjoyable.
